For more information on the Disorder:-

Largely unrecognised in Australia, especially in the fields of research, relief & working towards a cure. I have found information coming out of the USA, where the condition is as well known, as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, to be most helpful.

Here are some websites that may be helpful to others suffering from Fibromyalgia & the carers who want to understand how someone can have unrelenting pain 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 52 weeks of the year.

The most informative site I have found in Australia, is:-

ME/CFS Australia (SA) Inc.

The best website on the condition & what is being done, is:-

The American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association, Inc

Chronic Pain and Chronic Fatigue

For those who have not heard of Fibromyalgia please try to understand, the curse of this illness is that for the most part, there are no outward signs of distress.

To those who have recently joined the ranks, of people with Invisible Disabilities, BEWARE!! You now have a physical vulnerability, that makes you fair game, in a world where "survival of the fittest" is the first law. Most people who offer help see you as a financial target.

  • There is very little compassion or understanding to be found, even within the medical profession.
  • Lawyers see you as barely worthy of their time.
  • Insurance companies will refuse to pay medical bills, even when it is court ordered. They'd rather hound you to a point of utter exhaustion.
  • Eventually the only option you're left with is welfare and they regard you as a bludger. So expect to jump through rings just to survive.

I've been fortunate. I have an outstanding sister who has financed my housing and paid my way for 19 years. I could never repay her kindness.

To all those that battle Fibromyalgia & other debilitating illnesses, take heart in the fact you made it through yesterday and keep fighting; For tomorrow help may come. I have seen some wonderful Youtube productions which can lift your spirits on those long, lonely days, when the outside world is harsh & uninviting and self-doubt takes hold. Do yourself a favour, take the initiative to help yourself by looking for happiness. It will to boost your spirits.
